<p>As we sampled each wine, our mentors gave us a bit of history of the vintage. </p>
Our Wine Tasting Mentors
 <p>The front label of a bottle of Carmel Rodera 1999, the fourth wine we tried and last of the 1999s. A Ribera del Duero. Of the first four wines, this was our favorite. Fruity, with an excellent finish. </p>

 <p>Each of the two placemats had room for six glasses, and each spot was sequentially numbered so that we could tell which wine was which number. Very simple but elegant way to handle the tasting. </p>

<p>The front label of a bottle of Expresion by Izadi, a 2000 Rioja, and the fifth wine we tried. First of the 2000s. We both enjoyed this one. I thought it was quite drinkable by itself, but Linda thought it would go better with food. </p>

<p>The front label of a bottle of Malleolus, a 2000 Ribera del Duero, and the eighth wine we tried (and last of the 2000s). Linda liked this one best in the 2000s but didn’t think it was a great wine. I thought it was just passable. </p>

 <p>The front label of a bottle of 200 Monges, a 2000 Rioja, and the seventh wine we tried. Probably fine if you like a woody wine, but Linda and I both felt it was overpoweringly woody (like chewing on an oak stump). This was by far our least favorite wine of the whole tasting. </p>

<p>The front label of a bottle of Leda, a 2001 from Castilla y Leon, and the tenth wine we tried. This one was interesting in that most of the room had a pour from a bottle which had gone bad, and thus it made the bottom of the list initially. However, we ended up trying a fresh pour, and boy - what an incredible difference. The tasting from a good bottle elevated this one to one of my favorites in the 2001 batch. </p>
