By the time I got to the Metreon, at least 100 people had gotten there before me, and the line snaked outside. My spot was between the two women at the right, just under the “3” of “PLAYSTATION 3” on the sign. They were nice enough to let me back in line after the photo. Everyone was very civil.

The End of the Sony PS3 Line

After hearing that people inside had gotten stickers, and that they had run out of stickers before getting to me, I went inside and made a cash offer to anyone who would sell me their sticker (and place in line). Took less than 10 seconds for someone to accept US$200 in exchange for their sticker and spot. That put me in about 33rd place in line. In the photo you can see the sticker I proudly wore for my capitalistic ingenuity.

I Get a PlayStation Sticker

The folks in line wearing stickers were all rather convivial. And most of them were cutting work or school to be there. It did seem like we waited forever.

Waiting in Line for a Sony PS3

Almost an hour after I showed up, they finally brought out several carts of PS3s. Circled in this image is one of those carts, wrapped in black plastic. We figured each cart held about 30 PS3s. There was cheering in the line when the carts did finally get rolled out in the store.

The Sony PS3s Arrive, Finally

The process for buying the PS3s was pretty slow too. It seemed to take about 2-4 minutes per person, but everyone was pretty orderly about it, and there was quite a bit of humorous commentary about the newest purchasers.

Almost Ready for My New PS3

’Jake Richter, come on down!’ It really did feel like something of a game show. The Sony Playstation store guy in shorts was like the game show host, waving people on down, doing little dances, and keeping us all generally entertained. And then he summoned me to pray at the altar of credit card purchase.

Next In Line for a Sony PS3

Far too many dollars and minutes later, I am victorious, with my new Sony PS3 in hand.

Success! I have the PS3 In Hand!
